Client Challenges: Obsolete Data Storage Devices Were Posing a Data Security Threat and Occupying Valuable Business Space
Client had accumulated large quantities of sensitive information located on decommissioned data storage devices. Delaying destruction of this information was increasing Client’s risk of a data breach. The organization needed an inventory record in order to track the data storage devices that had been destroyed. This equipment needed to be sanitized of sensitive data so that Client remained in compliance with data security standards and regulations, including HIPAA and HITECH.
Securis Solution: Secure Shredding of Data Storage Devices– On-site
Securis offered a secure, timely, compliant and unobtrusive shredding process for both classified and unclassified electronic media, including:
- Securis supplied a team of professional security technicians who arrived on-site at Client’s location.
- Securis scanned the serial numbers for each appropriate data storage device.
- Upon capturing and completing the serial scan, Securis shredded all storage devices onsite in compliance with NIST 800-88 and DoD 5220 standards, while a designated representative of Client observed the process.
Securis removed all destroyed data storage devices from Client’s facility and transported all by-products of the shredding process to its secure facility in Chantilly, Virginia, where the by-products were smelted by Securis’ EPA approved domestic partners, in accordance with its Zero Export, Zero Landfill policy.
