Why We Do What We Do, Part I: Our Environment

Securis has a mission–something that we strive to achieve that makes the world a better place.  Sound impossible or dreamy?  Well, in our world which can sometimes be jaded and cynical, being dreamy just might be what we need.

This post is about the part of our mission that deals with the environment (the other part is data security but we’ll cover that another time.  Securis’ job is to make sure that none of the e-waste (electronics, computers, monitors, televisions, hard drives, laptops, mobile phones, tablets, etc.) ever reaches a landfill–anywhere. That includes China where sometimes the government isn’t paying as much attention as it should, so it is easy to “bury” e-waste there without getting in trouble.

In addition to ensuring our clients’ gear doesn’t end up in landfills, we also take responsibility for promoting the broader message: that no one should ever dispose of e-waste in a way that disturbs or harms any environment, in any manner.  Whether they use Securis or not.

That’s why, at the end of a video we did recently, you’ll hear me say, “And remember: Please make sure you discard your e-waste in a way that protects our environment–and your data.”

Because Securis wants to promote this broader message, we are sharing with you the trailer below for a highly acclaimed documentary called Manufactured Landscapes, which gives a dramatic and compelling visual picture of the devastation that can be caused when e-waste and other industrial forces wreak havoc on various environments.

After you view the trailer, please take a moment to share it on your social network(s) of choice.  Also, we encourage you to please take an hour or so to watch Manufactured Landscapes in its entirety on Netflix, Amazon or DVD.  It will be worth your time.

And one more thing: Always remember to please make sure you discard your e-waste in a way that protects our environment–and your data.
