Kansas Internal Investigation Finds Shortcoming in State’s Electronic Information Disposal

An article by James Carlson appearing in Topeka’s The Capital-Journal reports that the Kansas Department of Administration is reconsidering its computer disposal practices after an audit by a state oversight agency revealed that state equipment slated for sale to the public contained confidential information.

The article reports that the review found 7 of 15 machines inspected contained information considered confidential under state and federal law, including one computer that still contained thousands of Social Security numbers.
